It wasn’t lions and tigers and bears (oh, my), but the residents and staff enjoyed time with ponies, goats, rabbits and chicks! We had a visit from T&J Backyard Barn Buddies Mobile Petting Zoo and they delivered a really fun time for all!

It’s always nice when our residents can get outside and enjoy the day, especially on steamy summer days in Louisiana! Being able to brush the ponies and cuddle with the rabbits helped bring joy to everyone involved! It can be a challenge finding appropriate activities outside for our residents, especially with the almost unbearable Louisiana heat and humidity, but we definitely had fun today (and made sure everyone was cool and hydrated!). We’re all anxiously waiting for the cooler months, but realize we’re probably about 3 months away from cool fall nights!

Remember to help your elderly family members drink enough water to ensure they don’t get dehydrated! It’s very easy for our older, more vulnerable population to feel the affects of not having enough water (even though they may tell you they’re not thirsty!). Just be aware and make sure they have cool water available at all times – it will make a difference!

The Fourth of July is more than just fireworks and cookouts—it’s a celebration of the incredible freedoms we enjoy and the resilient spirit of the American people. At Lakeview Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Independence Day is a cherished occasion, bringing together residents, staff, families, and volunteers in a vibrant show of unity, patriotism, and gratitude.

This year, our celebration was filled with music, memories, and heartfelt moments. The decorations went up early in the week—red, white, and blue banners hung from the walls, American flags lined the entryway, and handmade crafts by our residents added a personal touch to every corner.

The morning began with a special ceremony led by local veterans, several of whom are proud residents of our home. With hands over hearts, we sang the national anthem together—residents, caregivers, and visitors standing side by side in honor of our great country. For many, it was a moment of reflection: on the freedoms we often take for granted, the sacrifices made to protect them, and the journey we’ve taken as a nation.

The real treat came later in the afternoon: a barbecue with all the fixings—grilled burgers, hot dogs, potato salad, sweet tea, and more that brought back summer memories of youth. Laughter echoed across the halls as friends reconnected and staff members joined in the fun.

Throughout the day, we shared stories from years gone by. One resident recalled watching fireworks on the Mississippi River in New Orleans as a child. Another talked about serving overseas during wartime and how returning home for Independence Day brought a new appreciation for what it meant to be American.

The Fourth of July reminds us not just of our independence, but of our interconnectedness. At Lakeview Manor, we’re proud to celebrate this day not only as citizens of a great nation, but as a family bound by respect, care, and love.

God bless our residents, our caregivers, and this incredible country we call home—America.

This Father’s Day, Lakeview Manor proudly honors the incredible men who have helped shape families, communities, and the world around them. Our residents who are fathers carry with them a lifetime of wisdom, love, sacrifice, and strength—qualities that define what it truly means to be a dad.

Fathers are the quiet champions of everyday life. They are protectors, teachers, providers, and often the steady hands that guide generations. Whether raising children through challenging times, serving their country, building careers, or nurturing the bonds of family, the fathers at Lakeview Manor have lived lives of purpose and resilience.

The Role of Fathers and The Legacy They Leave Behind

As we gather to celebrate them, we recognize not only the role they played as fathers, but the powerful legacy they continue to leave behind. Their stories, lessons, and laughter still resonate, reminding us of the deep importance of fatherhood in society. These men have shaped the world in ways both big and small—through patience, hard work, and unconditional love.

Today, we pause to reflect and give thanks for all they’ve done. We honor their decades of devotion, their hard-earned wisdom, and the strong example they’ve set for future generations.

To the fathers of Lakeview Manor: you are valued, you are loved, and your contributions continue to inspire. Thank you for everything you’ve given—not just to your families, but to all of us who have the privilege of knowing you. Happy Father’s Day!

National Nursing Home Week continued with a pop of color and a crunch of flavor during our latest themed celebration: Neon and Nachos. The day was all about brightness—bright clothes, bright smiles, and bright spirits—as residents and staff came together to share good food and good company.

From the start of the day, there was a buzz throughout the building. Staff showed up dressed in glowing neon shirts, headbands, socks, and even tutus—transforming the halls into a glowing, high-energy party. It was impossible not to smile at the sight of so many vibrant colors walking around, and residents were clearly enjoying the spectacle.

“Y’all are glowing today!” one resident joked, clapping her hands with delight as a caregiver in a lime green outfit passed by.

But the centerpiece of the day was, without a doubt, the nacho bar. Set up in the dining area, the spread included warm tortilla chips, melted cheese, seasoned ground beef, jalapeños, sour cream, black beans, and more. Residents had the option to build their nachos just the way they liked them—with staff right there to help every step of the way. Whether someone wanted a little spice or all the toppings, each plate was made with care.

It’s Always A Team Effort!

The kitchen and dietary teams worked hard behind the scenes, preparing everything fresh and arranging it beautifully. They teamed up with caregivers and activity staff to ensure that every resident got what they needed—whether that meant help building a plate, assistance with seating, or just someone to chat with during lunch.

What stood out most wasn’t just the food or the outfits—it was the teamwork. Staff moved seamlessly together, making sure each resident felt included and comfortable. They anticipated needs, offered a helping hand, and made it a point to create moments of connection. These weren’t just tasks—they were acts of kindness and presence.

“Bringing joy to our residents is what we’re here for,” one nurse said while helping a resident with their plate. “Days like this give us all a chance to laugh, relax, and enjoy each other outside of the routine.”

Residents appreciated the change of pace and the attention to detail. The bright atmosphere helped lift moods and brought a sense of fun to the afternoon. For some, it sparked memories of family get-togethers; for others, it was simply a treat to have something new to look forward to.

The goal of National Nursing Home Week is to celebrate the people who live and work in these communities, and Neon and Nachos did just that. It was a reminder that joy doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, all it takes is a plate of nachos, some glowing colors, and people who care.

As the music played and laughter lingered, it was clear: our staff aren’t just caregivers—they’re the heartbeat of this community. And days like today show just how far a little creativity and teamwork can go in bringing happiness to those we serve.

The spirit of Louisiana came alive today at Lakeview Manor as we celebrated National Nursing Home Week with one of our most anticipated events—Game Day, featuring a classic Southern favorite: a big, bold crawfish boil.

Decked out in jerseys from their favorite teams, staff transformed the courtyard into a vibrant game day tailgate scene. Tables were lined with tablecloths and buckets ready to catch the shells of freshly boiled crawfish. Team banners gave everything a festive flair, and upbeat Zydeco music added the perfect soundtrack to a sunny Louisiana afternoon.

Residents joined the fun, ready to cheer on their favorite teams and enjoy some seriously good eats. There were smiles all around as trays piled high with steaming crawfish, corn on the cob, potatoes, and sausage made their way to the tables. For many, the rich spices and familiar flavors stirred fond memories of backyard boils and family gatherings.

“This tastes just like home,” one resident said, grinning as she cracked into a crawfish. “It takes me back to when we’d have big boils every spring.”

But the food wasn’t the only thing that made the day special—it was the people. The teamwork on display from the staff was inspiring. From early morning prep to serving every resident with care and attention, the entire team worked together like a well-coached squad. Caregivers and activity aides made sure residents were comfortable, had everything they needed, and were fully part of the celebration. Even the administrative staff rolled up their sleeves, peeling crawfish, refilling drinks, and chatting with residents to keep the mood light and joyful.

“Events like these don’t happen without everyone stepping up,” said one staff member. “It’s not just about food—it’s about making our residents feel celebrated and cared for.”

It Was A Team Effort!

Throughout the day, there were yard games, friendly competitions, and even a little dancing when a favorite song came on. Residents played ring toss, tossed soft footballs through hoops, and cheered each other on in trivia games. Whether they were playing or simply enjoying the atmosphere, everyone was engaged, energized, and happy.

These moments do more than fill a calendar—they lift spirits, improve emotional health, and give our residents something to look forward to. Laughter, shared meals, and community are essential to quality of life, and today delivered all of that and more.

As the crawfish boil wound down, residents lingered, still chatting, smiling, and savoring the last bites. Game Day was more than a theme—it was a reminder of the joy that can come from simple pleasures, thoughtful planning, and a team committed to making every day meaningful.

We’re proud to celebrate our residents this National Nursing Home Week, and proud of the staff who go all out to make it memorable.

This week, the halls of Lakeview Manor are filled with more laughter, color, and community spirit than usual as we celebrate National Nursing Home Week. Each day features a special activity to uplift, engage, and connect residents and staff—and today’s event, Taco Tuesday, was nothing short of a fiesta.

From the moment the scent of sizzling beef, fresh cilantro, and warm tortillas wafted through the air, excitement buzzed throughout the building. Staff dressed in festive Mexican-inspired attire—colorful ponchos, sombreros, and bright embroidered shirts—set the tone for a day of celebration. Lively music played in the background as residents gathered in the main dining area, decorated with banners and bright tablecloths that made the whole room feel like a lively cantina.

The star of the show, of course, was the taco bar. We helped residents build their own plates from a variety of ingredients: seasoned ground beef and shredded chicken, black beans, sautéed vegetables, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and a selection of salsas. For many, this wasn’t just a meal—it was an event. Conversations flowed easily, and laughter rang out as friends compared taco creations and shared stories from their own families’ kitchen tables.

“I haven’t had a taco this good in years!” one resident beamed, proudly showing off her loaded plate. “And I made it just the way I like it.”

The joy on residents’ faces said everything. But beyond the immediate fun, there’s a deeper benefit to events like Taco Tuesday. Encouraging residents to participate in themed days and group activities supports emotional well-being, cognitive engagement, and even physical health. Lifting spirits and breaking the routine helps prevent isolation and adds purpose to the day. It gets people moving, talking, laughing—and that’s powerful medicine.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the incredible teamwork of the nursing home staff. From dietary and nursing aides to activities coordinators and custodial crews, everyone pitched in to make the day memorable. The kitchen and activity staff went above and beyond preparing fresh, flavorful options that met residents’ dietary needs without sacrificing taste. Caregivers ensured that residents were dressed comfortably and arrived at the event on time, while activity leaders kept the energy high with games and trivia between bites.

“This week is about celebrating our residents, but it’s also about honoring the heart and dedication of our team,” said the facility Administrator, L. Todd Sonnier. “When you see the smiles, the laughter, the sense of connection—that’s the reward.”

As the afternoon wound down and sombreros were set aside, one thing was clear: Taco Tuesday wasn’t just about tacos. It was about joy. It was about community. And it was a perfect example of how life in a nursing home can be full of warmth, celebration, and meaningful moments.

Here’s to more joyful days this National Nursing Home Week—and maybe a few more tacos, too.

This week marks a special occasion at our nursing home in Louisiana—National Nursing Home Week, a time to celebrate the dedication, compassion, and joy that fills our halls every day. We kicked off the festivities with a vibrant and laughter-filled Crazy Hat Day, and it was nothing short of heartwarming!

Residents and staff alike showed off their creativity and humor with a variety of colorful, outrageous, and downright silly hats. From oversized sun hats adorned with flowers to homemade masterpieces crafted from feathers and glitter, the atmosphere was festive and full of smiles. For our residents, many of whom have spent a lifetime caring for others, this day was a reminder that fun doesn’t have an age limit.

But beneath the surface of hats and laughter lies something even more important: a deep commitment to exceptional elder care. Every day, our team works to provide more than just medical support—we offer companionship, dignity, and a sense of belonging. Nursing Home Week reminds us why we do what we do: to make sure our residents not only live comfortably but live joyfully.

Helping residents find happiness in small moments, whether it’s decorating a hat or sharing a story, creates powerful connections. These shared experiences improve emotional well-being and bring light into the lives of those who have given so much to others. As staff, we’re reminded that caregiving isn’t just a job—it’s a calling. It teaches us patience, compassion, and appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

The joy we witnessed on Crazy Hat Day was contagious. Staff members were laughing with residents, families were snapping photos, and the entire building buzzed with energy. These moments not only uplift our residents but also reinvigorate our team, giving us a fresh perspective on the impact we have every day.

As we continue celebrating Nursing Home Week, we’re looking forward to more themed days, music, games, and heartfelt conversations. But Crazy Hat Day will be remembered as a joyful symbol of how a little fun, a lot of love, and a commitment to care can turn an ordinary Monday into something magical.

Here’s to our residents, our dedicated team, and a week full of laughter, memories, and the spirit of community. Happy Nursing Home Week!
