Game Day & Crawfish Boil: Big Smiles for National Nursing Home Week

The spirit of Louisiana came alive today at Lakeview Manor as we celebrated National Nursing Home Week with one of our most anticipated events—Game Day, featuring a classic Southern favorite: a big, bold crawfish boil.

Decked out in jerseys from their favorite teams, staff transformed the courtyard into a vibrant game day tailgate scene. Tables were lined with tablecloths and buckets ready to catch the shells of freshly boiled crawfish. Team banners gave everything a festive flair, and upbeat Zydeco music added the perfect soundtrack to a sunny Louisiana afternoon.

Residents joined the fun, ready to cheer on their favorite teams and enjoy some seriously good eats. There were smiles all around as trays piled high with steaming crawfish, corn on the cob, potatoes, and sausage made their way to the tables. For many, the rich spices and familiar flavors stirred fond memories of backyard boils and family gatherings.

“This tastes just like home,” one resident said, grinning as she cracked into a crawfish. “It takes me back to when we’d have big boils every spring.”

But the food wasn’t the only thing that made the day special—it was the people. The teamwork on display from the staff was inspiring. From early morning prep to serving every resident with care and attention, the entire team worked together like a well-coached squad. Caregivers and activity aides made sure residents were comfortable, had everything they needed, and were fully part of the celebration. Even the administrative staff rolled up their sleeves, peeling crawfish, refilling drinks, and chatting with residents to keep the mood light and joyful.

“Events like these don’t happen without everyone stepping up,” said one staff member. “It’s not just about food—it’s about making our residents feel celebrated and cared for.”

It Was A Team Effort!

Throughout the day, there were yard games, friendly competitions, and even a little dancing when a favorite song came on. Residents played ring toss, tossed soft footballs through hoops, and cheered each other on in trivia games. Whether they were playing or simply enjoying the atmosphere, everyone was engaged, energized, and happy.

These moments do more than fill a calendar—they lift spirits, improve emotional health, and give our residents something to look forward to. Laughter, shared meals, and community are essential to quality of life, and today delivered all of that and more.

As the crawfish boil wound down, residents lingered, still chatting, smiling, and savoring the last bites. Game Day was more than a theme—it was a reminder of the joy that can come from simple pleasures, thoughtful planning, and a team committed to making every day meaningful.

We’re proud to celebrate our residents this National Nursing Home Week, and proud of the staff who go all out to make it memorable.
